Simon Youth Foundation Earns 4-Star Charity Status

Simon Youth Foundation’s sound fiscal management practices and commitment to accountability and transparency have earned it a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity evaluator. This is the first time SYF has earned this top distinction.

“SYF’s coveted 4-star rating puts it in a very select group of high-performing charities,” according to Michael Thatcher, President and CEO of Charity Navigator. “Out of the thousands of nonprofits Charity Navigator evaluates, only one out of four earns 4 stars — a rating that demands rigor, responsibility and commitment to openness.”

Simon Youth Foundation partners with public school districts across the country to open dropout recovery academies primarily inside shopping malls. There are currently 27 of these Simon Youth Academies in 12 states. This unique approach has been wildly successful. Simon Youth Academies boast a collective graduation rate of 90 percent.

“This rating demonstrates to our donors that we are using our funding wisely to help at-risk students turn more tassels,” SYF CEO Michael Durnil said. “We value each of our supporters and hope this rating solidifies their confidence in us.”

About SYF
Since 1998, SYF has graduated more than 13,000 students who would have otherwise dropped out. Their cumulative graduation rate of 90 percent is higher than the national average for all students. In addition to Simon Youth Academies, SYF maintains a scholarship program that awards more than $1 million a year to students pursuing post-secondary education.
