SYF Hit a Homerun in Nashville

Simon Youth Foundation (SYF)
hit a homerun in Nashville when an “all-star” team, including Dr.
Jesse Register and members of the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools (MNPS)
hosted “Simon Youth Foundation Night at the Ballpark” on August 1, 2013, which coincided with the first day of school in Nashville.
From the time the gates
opened to the end of the 9th inning, SYF scored big throughout the evening.
Highlights included:
  • Cheering on Dr. Jesse
Register, MNPS Director of Schools, as he threw out the first pitch and
received a warm welcome from fans.
  • Listening to Dr. Michael
Durnil, SYF President and CEO, in an interview on 102.5 The Game, as he
introduced fans to the important work of SYF in the Nashville area.
  • Raising money through ticket sales to benefit SYF, Simon Youth scholarship programs and Simon Academies at Old CockrillOpry Mills and Hickory Hollow.
  • Surprising Elaine Fahrner,
Former Principal of the Academy at Old Cockrill, by inducting her into the Simon
Youth Foundation Educator Alumni Association and recognizing her at the game for
her significant contributions to Simon Youth Academies and education in

For the past 15 years, SYF has partnered with public
school districts and communities across the nation to help at-risk
students achieve their high school diplomas and pursue their dreams of
post-secondary education. During that time, SYF has distributed $10,000,000 in
scholarships and graduated 10,000 students.

SYF has an incredibly successful partnership with Metro Nashville Public Schools. Well over 1,000 at-risk students have graduated from the three Simon Youth Academies in Nashville, including more than 850 since 2009.
Thank you to everyone who
participated in Simon Youth Foundation Night at the Ballpark. Congratulations
to the Nashville Sounds on their win against the Las Vegas 51s – and congratulations
to everyone who is helping ignite hope in the lives of students in the
Nashville area.
