Shapiro brings 18 years of experience leading youth-serving and educational programs
Today, Simon Youth Foundation (SYF) announced that Jon Shapiro has been named Associate Director of Programs. In his role, Shapiro will oversee stewardship of services and programs to SYF’s growing network of more than 30 Simon Youth Academies in 12 states, as well as support the Simon Youth Scholarship programs as SYF continues to expand its presence across the country.
“Jon joins SYF at an important time in our history, as SYF works to rapidly grow the number of Simon Youth Academies across the nation by 2023,” said SYF President and CEO Dr. J. Michael Durnil. “His extensive experience in scaling youth-serving and educational programs while effectively managing large teams with diverse needs will add new depth to SYF’s programmatic work and help us meet our ambitious goals.”
Shapiro comes to SYF from the Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Indianapolis, where he worked as its Senior Vice President of Membership and Youth Services. During his five years at JCC Indianapolis, Shapiro directed and oversaw the marketing and communications efforts for his department and collaborated with members of other departments to increase revenue, retention and participation goals.
Prior to his work at JCC Indianapolis, Shapiro directed the premier Jewish community overnight camp in the Mid-Atlantic region, Capital Camps. Serving over 1,200 children each summer, he ensured the highest possible standards of the camp, as well as managing a budget of approximately $3 million.
A New York Native, Shapiro received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Services Management from State University of New York Empire State College. He is married to Katy Shapiro, a home-based therapist. They have one son, Micah.
